December Holidays in Cape Town means Summer Holidays.Honestly it still sounds weird to me- December equaled snow, cold, well deep winter for me for so long. But there is no denying that it is summer in the Cape of Good Hope.
I have a whole list of places I wanna visit. Most of them are on a coast far away from the hustle and bustle that the December Holidays bring to Cape Town. While I guess it is great for most businesses- I don't find it particularly great that the population of my home of choice doubles or even triples... -it just too loud and too busy for me, I am after all a small town girl from Heidiland- so we tend to run away from here. This year we are planning on several road trips to more quiet corners of South Africa.
I have decided to take a vacation day last Monday and went on a little road trip. That's were the above photo was taken. Today I did the obvious and finally decided to put myself officially on summer holidays- so if anybody is looking for me: I am most likely somewhere on the photo above ..... or a similar location, taking photos, making road trips, enjoying the sun, discovering, sketching, reading, relaxing eating ice cream! Well- being on Summer holidays

Autumn
In Cape Town Autumn, unlike in my home country Switzerland, is very subtle. You have to watch out for it other wise you missed it and its winter....due to this most people base seasons around here on the Calender. So on the 1st of April its Autumn- But Autumn like all the other seasons does not keep to calenders- so here are the signs of Cape Autumn:
suddenly the rains start again
the summer flowers are spent
the light becomes softer and the colours brighter
seed pods appear
Salvias and Proteas bloom
and the surest sign of autumn is the oak leaves are falling
but that seems a small eternity back- it is late spring in Cape Town at the moment!
so it looks more like this around here:
(more Cape spring in Stellenberg on Enchanted Gardens)

Pondering
is done allot by me (probably too much). The best way to reflect on things is on long walks, just my camera and me...
Like yesterday in Moullipoint.
I am pondering over my self at the moment. Where I am, where I come from and whereo, I want to go- how to get there. I have been doing this for a few days, after my walk with Lumix (my camera) I made a list. Lists are always good, a beginning to actions. So hopefully I will move to new ponderings in the next few days...
like the wonders of seasons, shapes of leaves, politics, the light, times, philosophy - oh there is so much to ponder on!
What have you been pondering on lately?

Last Saturday on Green Market Square
Cape Town was a buzz with Soccer Fans and Locals alike. The World Cup has kept us all guessing and everybody got pulled into it....
Before Saturdays Game (Argentina-Germany)
There were Vendors selling African and Soccer Memorabilias
allot of Fans buying Vuvuzelass
I am afraid to say, locals and tourist alike have taken to this disturbingly noisy instrument... the vuvuzela is here to stay!
some Kapies (cape towneans) discussing, who to support
a Girl wishing for an African Beaded Neckless
..and trying to convince her parents to buy one
and then there were some odd people just taking photos. ;)

Bliss
Bliss is little nuggets of complete happiness. A moment where time stands still and a small event prevails and brings happiness.
Like discovering Little details that take a way my breath,a unexpected air of perfume of a beautiful flower, discovering a wonderful book, being enchanted by a great piece of art, talking until dawn with friend, a smile with love, sharing a great meal or a good cup of coffee.
sometimes its discovered through solitude but other times only possible in the company of a beloved.
All of this I had on my recent journey. Meeting with dear friends there I haven't seen in far too long, but it was like we only parted yesterday. Enjoyed great meals and wonderful talks, found two beautiful books that speak to my heart (and are in German, such a treat to read in ones mother tongue) was enchanted by the spring blossoms all around me and their perfumes. Enjoyed quiet morning walks just with my camera, was touched by the amazing history and architectural beauty... it was simply BLISS!
as I was looking for words to describe my travels, Jane placed the word right into my lap with this weeks Corner View. Thank you, Jane!

Celebrations!
It's the first anniversary of the Corner View. In honour of it, I am following Jane's & Pien's lead and doing a give-away as well. Just leave a comment and a randomly chosen winner will get one of my photo prints.
I found it a bit difficult to make up my mind which was my favorite post, so I drew lots and this one won. Which by the way, I do really like.Do follow me on a celebration tour through the world .To many more wonderful glimpses into corners of our lifes!

Somehow I was always drawn to the details and small things around me... I always wanted to take a closer look, discover the magical worlds around me. I think that is one of the reasons I ended up in Science for a bit. Now my camera finds me the miniature worlds that we are surrounded with
